imageKansas City Southern has joined the Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA), the Class I announced late last week.BiTA was founded to engage transportation and technology industry leaders who have a shared vision of leveraging blockchain technology within the supply chain to develop a standard framework, educate the market and encourage its widespread adoption, KCS officials said in a press release."KCS recognizes the potential of this technology to create transparency and efficiencies throughout the supply chain to better serve the interests of our shippers and partners," said KCS senior vice president operations support and chief information officer Mike Naatz. Earlier this year, BNSF Railway Co. became the first Class I to join BiTA.

KCS relaunches intermodal service between Louisiana port, Texas terminal

Kansas City Southern yesterday announced a new weekly intermodal service between the Port of New Orleans and Wylie, Texas, will begin in May.

The Class I previously offered intermodal service in the lane, but it was discontinued following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

KCS reports record Q1 results

Kansas City Southern reported record first-quarter 2018 results, including a 5 percent increase in revenue and a 4 percent hike in operating income compared with last year's first quarter, the Class I announced today.

KCS' revenue in the quarter rose to $639 million from $609.5 million a year ago. The Class I posted record Q1 diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.40, up 1 percent, and record Q1 adjusted diluted EPS of $1.30, up 11 percent over Q1 2017.

imageA panel investigating freight-rail competition in Mexico has dismissed a preliminary report by the Mexican Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) that alleged competition was lacking in certain areas of the country's freight-rail market.Kansas City Southern officials announced today that they've received the final resolution. "The final resolution dismisses the preliminary report issued by the investigating authority of the COFECE along with its finding of a lack of competition for interconnection services," KCS officials said in a prepared statement. "The final resolution represents the end of the investigation and no further amendments or modifications may be made to the preliminary report."The investigation examined the level of competition for interconnection services, trackage rights and switching rights as part of freight-rail service in Mexico.KCS officials disagreed with the preliminary report's conclusions, which were issued last year.
