Norfolk Southern Railway will provide rail service to the Middle Georgia Megasite, which the state and Peach County Development Authority purchased through a partnership.

The 1,100-acre site is located adjacent to Georgia Highway 96, with access to Interstate 75. Rail service will be provided by NS on the north side, plus an additional rail line on the west side. Both the ports of Savannah and Brunswick can be reached via rail in less than five hours, authority officials said in a press release.

"This joint effort will create opportunities for the entire region, and the projects attracted to megasites create a ripple effect of growth that crosses county lines," said Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson. "Right now, we’re seeing that speed to market is a driving factor for companies, and preparing sites of this scale to meet companies’ timelines keeps Georgia competitive."

The megasite was purchased using proceeds from the sale of the Chatham County Economic Development site that Amazon bought last year for the construction of a new major distribution facility.

Two regional airports are within 25 minutes of the megasite, while Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is 90 minutes away.
