Denver's Regional Transportation District (RTD) has named Michael Ford chief operating officer.

The agency created the position last year to oversee rail and bus operations while meeting the needs of the growing metro region, RTD officials said in a press release.

A 30-year transit veteran, Ford previously served as chief executive officer of the Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan in Detroit.

He also served stints as the COO and assistant general manager at the San Joaquin Regional Transit District and director of transportation operations and executive adviser to the general manager at the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation Authority of Oregon.

"The insights and experience [Ford] has gained at agencies across the country make him uniquely suited to serve our customers," said RTD General Manager and CEO Dave Genova.
