American Public Transportation Association (APTA) President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Skoutelas yesterday lauded the U.S. Senate’s adoption of an amendment that blocks a 12 percent funding cut to transit agencies in fiscal-year 2020.
The U.S. Senate yesterday adopted Jones-McSally Amendment No. 1141 and passed H.R. 3055, a minibus appropriations bill that includes the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations bill.
The Jones-McSally Amendment ultimately prevents a $1.2 billion cut to public transportation funding, Skoutelas said in a press release.
Last month, APTA lead a coalition of 31 organizations in opposition to public transit infrastructure funding cuts included in the THUD Appropriations bill, and issued a letter urging the Senate to permanently block the 12 percent cut.
The coalition included associations representing construction, manufacturing, workers, transportation agencies, state and local government officials, businesses and environmental organizations.
