The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has completed its $203 million reconstruction of the nearly century-old Wilson Station on the Red and Purple lines.
The final component of the project, which began in 2014, was the restoration of the historic Gerber Building, which has served as the station's main entrance.
CTA repaired and restored the station's exterior and recreated its clock and parapet wall, which had been removed decades ago.
The agency also built larger platforms with glass canopies and installed security cameras and a real-time train and bus tracker. In addition, the CTA installed new, quieter track structure to replace aging infrastructure.
Located in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, the new Wilson Station is expected to provide greater economic opportunities in the area, CTA President Dorval Carter Jr. said in a press release.
The Wilson Station reconstruction is one of the largest projects in CTA history, agency officials said.
