On July 22, the Sun Link streetcar system in Tucson, Arizona, marked its third anniversary.
Since its launch, the system has provided approximately 2.93 million rides, Sun Link officials said in a press release.
To celebrate its three years of service, Sun Link provided free rides over the weekend.
The Sun Link streetcar was funded through federal dollars and the Tucson Regional Transportation Authority's (RTA) $2.1 billion, 20-year plan. The 3.9-mile streetcar route cost about $196 million to build.
The city of Tucson and RTA continue to provide funds for the system's annual operations.
