CN officials announced last week the railroad will spend CA$40 million this year on infrastructure in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

In New Brunswick, the Class I will spend CA$30 million to install 20 miles of rail and more than 50,000 ties, as well as rebuild road crossing surfaces and perform maintenance on bridges, culverts, signal systems and other track infrastructure.

CN's New Brunswick rail network spans the province transporting consumer goods and other intermodal traffic to Moncton and reaches the ports of Saint John and Belledune.

In Nova Scotia, CN will spend CA$10 million to install 6 miles of new rail and install more than 2,100 ties. The funds also will be used to rebuild road crossing surfaces and perform maintenance on bridges, culverts, signal systems and other track infrastructure.

In both provinces, the projects will help the railroad improve safety and support efficient service, CN officials said in press releases. The projects are part of CN's CA$3.4 billion capital expenditure program for the year.
