Canadian Pacific yesterday released its 2016 corporate sustainability report.

The document outlines the railroad's commitment to "long-term value creation and sustainable operations," CP officials said in a press release.

The report shares progress that the Class I has made since 2014, when its last sustainability report was published. The latest report notes that CP has logged a 15.5 percent reduction in annual greenhouse gas emissions since 2015.

In addition, the railroad in 2016 logged its lowest-ever train accident frequency.

"With a network spanning 12,400 miles across North America and running through more than 1,100 communities, we have an obligation to all of our stakeholders to continue to operate in a manner that is socially and environmentally responsible," said CP President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Creel. "It is a duty we take seriously as a leader in safe, secure and efficient rail operations."

The 2016 report addresses five categories: safety and security; environmental responsibility; social and economic development; financial viability and customer service; and infrastructure planning and design.
