NS 'safety train' educates first responders in South Carolina
The NS safety train offers continuing education to first responders.Photo – Norfolk Southern Corp.Norfolk Southern Corp. hosted 213 emergency responders in Greenville, S.C., last week for training on the Class I's "safety train."
A mobile technical training center, the train was used for the continuing education of first responders and representatives of government agencies. The event was staged at NS' Greenville rail yard. Eighteen area agencies attended the session, according to an NS press release.
The safety train will visit 18 cities in 13 states during its inaugural tour. So far, 1,423 emergency responders have received instruction on the train.
At each location, responders may choose one of the free four-hour classes offered over a three-day period. The train includes two boxcars converted into classrooms, four types of tank cars used in transporting chemicals, and two specially equipped flat cars.
