CN's board last week unanimously elected Shauneen Bruder as its new chair.

Bruder was, until her retirement in October 2019, the executive vice president of operations at the Royal Bank of Canada, where she was responsible for overseeing operations related to all personal and business clients in Canada.

Bruder joined CN's board in 2017. As chair, she succeeds Robert Pace.

The board also elected as new directors David Freeman, Robert Knight and Susan Jones, who "bring to their roles a deep expertise in transportation, operations and executive leadership," Bruder said in a press release.

Re-elected to the board are Jo-ann dePass Olsovsky, Denise Gray, Justin Howell, Kevin Lynch, Margaret McKenzie, Robert Phillips, and CN President and CEO Tracy Robinson.

Bruder reiterated the board’s commitment to recruiting a francophone — or someone who speaks French — and Quebec-based director.

"We intend to appoint the new director in the coming months," she said, adding that the board selected a Montreal search firm to help recruit the candidate.
