The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority has received proposals from four teams vying for a design-build contract for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (Metro) light-rail extension to Montclair, California.

The proposals include each team's technical approach to completing the design and construction of the $1.5 billion project, their management method and other specifications.

Over the next several weeks, six committees of transportation and industry experts, attorneys, financial professionals and partner agencies will review and rate the proposals.

The winning bidder would be responsible for all elements of the 12.3-mile Gold Line extension from Glendora to Montclair, with the exception of parking. Major construction is slated to begin in early 2020 and consist of two phases.

The first part of the project involves rebuilding and relocating the freight and Metrolink systems that operate in the middle of the rail corridor. After the relocation is completed, crews will construct the light-rail system.

The project is slated to be completed in 2026.

In December 2017, the construction authority held a ceremony to mark the start of the light-rail project.
