Metrolinx completes Milliken GO rail bridge project

Metrolinx last week completed construction of a new rail bridge at the Milliken GO rail station in Toronto.

Since spring 2019, trains at the station have been running on a temporary diversion track to allow for construction of the new rail bridge. On Oct. 19, trains were shifted back to the new east track atop of the rail bridge.

Contracted crews from EllisDon installed the bridge pier, completed the bridge abutments and constructed the bridge deck on ground level, agency officials said on the agency’s Metrolinx News blog.

Now, crews have begun construction of a new west platform at the station, and will begin the first phase of roadway excavation, which includes the area underneath the bridge deck. 

Crews will also work to remove and decommission a large water main on Steeles Avenue East. 

The work is part of Metrolinx’s larger project to upgrade the Milliken GO Station. Other improvements include pedestrian tunnels, elevators, weather canopies and lighting.
