New York & Atlantic Railway (NY&A) has promoted Charles Samul to director of sales and marketing, effective Sept. 1.

He will report to Eric Jakubowski, vice president and chief commercial officer of NY&A owner Anacostia Rail Holdings. Samul joined the short line in 2014 as a marketing project manager and became manager of sales and marketing in 2015.

He began his railroad career in 1978 with Conrail and over the years held management posts in risk management, real estate, marketing and economic development with Conrail and Norfolk Southern Railway. Samul later left the rail industry and for five years served Winebow, a premium wines and spirits importer and wholesaler.

NY&A operates 269 miles of track on Long Island, New York, and shares track owned by MTA Long Island Rail Road. The short line interchanges with Canadian Pacific, CSX, NS, New York New Jersey Rail LLC, and Providence and Worcester Railroad.
