NYC Transit to reopen Nostrand Avenue Station entrance
MTA NYCT plans to reopen the Bedford Avenue entrances at Nostrand Avenue Station.Photo – Bombardier TransportMTA New York City Transit (NYCT) this year will begin a $2 million project to reopen a second set of entrances at the Nostrand Avenue subway station in Brooklyn, to reduce crowding and improve accessibility, the agency announced yesterday.
The Bedford Avenue entrances to the station were closed more than 30 years ago during a period of concern about crime, NYCT officials said in a press release.
Once reopened, the entrances will provide the station with a direct connection to northbound bus service, provide a free in-station transfer between the northbound and southbound platforms, and better connect the station with destinations west of Arlington Place.
Crews will repaint, repair and replace tile, rehabilitate stairways, install lighting and turnstiles and construct sidewalk entrances.
NYCT records approximately 17,500 riders entering Nostrand Avenue Station each weekday. Average weekday ridership at this station has grown about 15 percent over the past decade, officials said.
