Ottawa leaders lay final piece of rail for O-Train Confederation Line

Canadian elected officials earlier this month gathered to install the final piece of light-rail track for the O-Train Confederation Line in Ottawa, Ontario.

On May 4, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and other leaders boarded a train at the Tremblay Station and traveled into the line's downtown tunnel, where officials hammered rail clips to secure the final piece of rail into position.

The installation took place near the University of Ottawa station. Crews have installed nearly 170,000 rail clips across the entire alignment.

Slated to open later this year, the 7.8-mile Confederation Line features 13 stations, including four underground stops. The governments of Canada, Ontario and Ottawa are jointly funding the CA$2.13 billion project.

The light-rail line will operate from the Tunney's Pasture area in western Ottawa to the Blair Station in the east.
