UP maps infrastructure projects in Minnesota

Union Pacific Railroad announced plans for $14 million worth of infrastructure projects this year in Minnesota.

The funds cover track and bridge maintenance and signal projects in the state.

Key projects will include $9.6 million to replace 76,064 ties and install 50,661 tons of ballast on the rail line between Glenville and St. Paul, according to a UP press release.

This year's planned $14 million capital expenditure in Minnesota is part of an ongoing investment strategy, UP officials said. From 2012 to 2016, UP spent more than $81 million on its network in Minnesota.

"Union Pacific's targeted investments fund projects that strengthen our railroad tracks, increase safety and minimize delays as trains travel through communities across Minnesota," said Donna Kush, vice president-public affairs, Northern region.
