The fiscal-year 2019 program includes $21.5 million in large-scale work at 23 stations in 17 states, and $51 million at 30 locations in 18 states to comply with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), according to an Amtrak press release.
The 2019 program is four times as big as the FY2018 program, which included $6.2 million in major improvements at 16 stations, plus $12.8 million at 25 stations for ADA compliance.
Customer-focused improvements are made in addition to general repairs and improvement work. These include new door systems, lavatories and station platforms, as well more complex projects such as the Chicago Union Station Great Hall renovation that was completed in November 2018.
