PANYNJ set port, rail ridership records in July

image The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) announced yesterday it posted record monthly cargo volume in July, while its Port Authority-Trans Hudson (PATH) rail service logged record monthly ridership.The authority reported its highest monthly cargo volume on record in July, surpassing previous record set in October 2018, PANYNJ officials said in a press release.In July, the port handled 662,994 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) compared with 658,708 TEUs handled in October 2018. For the first seven months of this year, the port handled 4,315,835 TEUs. Rail volume in July was the sixth highest on record at 56,339 containers compared to 54,254 containers in July 2018, a 3.8 percent increase.Meanwhile, PATH reported 7.18 million passengers in July, a 4.7 percent increase from July 2018 and a new monthly ridership record, which broke the railroad's previous monthly ridership record. Additionally, PATH's average weekday ridership in July 2019 grew 2.3 percent over July 2018 to achieve the second highest July weekday average ridership ever recorded at 288,163 passengers.
