The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) yesterday announced that it will increase Tri-Rail fares on Jan. 1, 2020.

The fare hike, the first in 10 years, will vary based on trip length. However, all increases will be less than 10 percent, SFRTA officials said in a press release.

A full-price monthly pass, for example, will rise from $100 to $110, which translates to $1.83 a day to ride.

The revenue generated by the increase will cover higher costs for rail-car maintenance, fuel, train operations, ticketing systems, technology improvements and other system improvements, SFRTA officials said.
